Faith Academy football travels to Weatherford for feel of the playoffs

The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team will travel to play at Weatherford Christian at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in a non-district ball game.
Flames head coach John Hallam said he wanted to schedule this contest because it was a great tune-up for what he players will experience when the playoffs begin.
“I scheduled them because we had a couple of holes in the schedule,” he said. “We have a very home-centric schedule. The (Round Rock) Concordia trip was the only trip of consequence. I wanted a couple of games where we travel. We may have an opportunity to get a game like that in the playoffs.”
The Lions are led by junior quarterback Jace Rodriguez who threw for 190 yards during the 56-20 win against Midland Trinity last week.
“They have a really good athletic quarterback who should present some challenges,” Hallam said. “They run the ball quite a bit. He can do a lot.”
As for his own team, Hallam said he’s looking for the Flames to eliminate the sloppiness they showed during the win against Round Rock Concordia.
“The guys really do compete hard,” he said. “We make big plays, we turn the ball over like crazy. We’ve been in all the games. We haven’t played at a high level to see what we can do.”
He wants to see the Flames assemble a complete game where they show their talent and mastery of the playbook.
“Sometimes those things happen all at once very quickly,” the coach said. “We’re running out of time. We have a small roster this year. We have to get people to play a new position.”
It’s essential the Flames continue to keep building in a positive direction, especially since they travel to play at Round Rock Christian next week. The Crusaders have the same 1-1 Division II, District 3 record as Faith Academy. The winner of that contest has the inside track to making the playoffs of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools with Waco Live Oak still unbeaten in district play. This district only has two playoff berths.
“We need to win out,” Hallam said. “We need to start experiencing a playoff feel. It won’t magically start happening. We need to get the most out of the next three games.”
